Week 11, Post 1 - Email Marketing

Email marketing can be a valuable tool in driving sales for a business.  In the first page of this weeks lecture, the graphic states that “Customers who receive email marketing spend 83% more when shopping.”  When I stopped to think about my spending habits, I had an “a-ha moment.” I thought about how many times I received an email from one of my favorite stores that advertised “30% off your entire order...” My husband says I’m a marketer’s dream as I often get sucked in to this type of advertising.  That being said, I have to agree that it is fairly effective.

For my business, I feel that one newsletter post every 3-4 weeks would suffice.  Even though I have repeat customers, people don’t typically rent a margarita machine on a regular basis.  I have a few corporate clients that rent every month or two, but most repeat customers rent no more than two or three times a year.  I would not want to bombard my customers so one post every 3-4 weeks should suffice.

Some newsletter content ideas that may interest my customers are:
  Holiday themed drinks
  Holiday deals (Cinco de Mayo...)
Discounts on rentals (during slow times)
Promotions for a free mix if rental is booked this week
Photos from big events (I.e. Comicon, Modern Times Beer’s Dank Fest)
Charity events - donated machines for fundraisers

By sending newsletters and/or Blog posts every 3-4 weeks, my customers will be reminded of how awesome the margaritas were at their party.  They’ll remember to reserve a machine for an upcoming event or share the info with friends and family.

  1. I really enjoyed reading your post. I was able to relate big time! I too get sucked into those emails with special offers. I'd say Michael's craft store had the biggest influence on me. I just cannot pass up those 40% and 50% coupons they send me. And I'd say your timing for your newsletters is spot on.

  2. It's pretty hard to pass up on a 30% sale lol. I feel like nearly everything I buy online is on some kind of sale/discount. I think your newsletter content and email rate is perfect and you supplied good reasoning to support it.
